A nod to the great John Oswald and his ‘Plunderphonics’ (here represented in a slightly more ‘chunky’ form). A ‘by key byte tour’ through Mr. (J)oel’s greatest errr…bytes? (no worries Bill, I love you just the way I edited you )
At this point, these are my ‘first pass’ versions and I will probably do some further ‘cleaning’. As each original file provided here in 7:00 min excerpts was over 20 minutes (being that my original manifesto was to use EVERY byte of original songs) I needed a break for now!
Billy Bytes Player
Audio photocollage in the vein of David Hockney’s ‘joiners’. A joiner consists of a series of photographs taken from different viewpoints, arranged (overlapping) to form a single piece. By taking the pictures from carefully selected viewpoints, and arranging them in the right way, Hockney was able to change the apparent shape of space and introduce the element of time into the work.
Here, layered time, space, and narrative is attempted through a mathematical presentation of ‘chunks’ and layers of sound bytes in a vein related to Cubist concerns. The challenge is then of two ears (as opposed to two eyes in Cubist theory) in slightly different moments of time.
Oscillators Made Of Joiners Player
The above image is probably the most well known of Hockney’s ‘Joiners; and in a bit of fate happens to been created only miles from where I presently live!
Oscillators Made Of Polaroids
Ship’s Piano, Beginners Mind.
Debussy Fields Player
Oscillators made of gameboys meet drum machines made of integer series.
An extreme interpretation based on the ‘*(A)bba*’ boxset.
Explorations into everything from ‘insect’ to ‘motorik’ possibilities of this ‘guilty pleasure’ pop group. Each final track based solely on one single and exclusive track from the boxset with no additional material other than laptop DSP.
A ‘sound design rabbit hole’ if you will

(This is a work of audio satire)
Playing again in the territory of turntablists (and NWW mutants)…a contemplation on my own mother’s ‘playlist’ influence (back when ‘playlist’ meant a stack of vinyl on a ‘Garrard Automatic Turntable’ while she was vacuuming).
Dedicated to both my mom and ‘Andrew Now’ (don’t know what to do Andy!)
(B)urt (B)acharach Remixes Player
The friction of centuries change, the third wave crashes and the liquid man emerges from a brown foam made of history. Shuddering murmur shakes, folded whispers foraging among the the sputter of rustling sparks.
Electro Plasma Sounds
Sound pressure take-out, side orders of confused interpretations clearly opaque in their frictive short lived travels from the swinging doors of perceptions to your consciousness’ dirty plate. Susurrent stir fry language curls.
