Percussion Scapes Volume 3

The ‘series’ of experiments continues, this time utilizing the Defective Records software version of the ‘Klee’ sequencer under external generative influences.

“…In fact, programming a Klee sequence is an exercise in the unpredictable. The programmingpots interact with each other according to the Klee pattern driving them, and the Klee patternitself is as instantly changeable as programming a pot. Some changes will shift your Kleesequence in a slightly different direction, while some changes may shift the flow of things onehundred eighty degrees. In fact, the Klee gets its name from this concept. When the first modelwas designed, programming it was compared to molding a sculpture out of very loose clay. Some time after that statement, Romeo Fahl built a version of the first Klee model, and named it the Klee (which is pronounced ‘clay’) both in recognition of the “loose clay” description and in honor of the artist Paul Klee, whose work often, somehow, reflects the abstract nature ofprogramming a Klee sequencer and many of the sequences it’s been known to produce.”

Various percussion sounds include Applied Acoustics Systems ‘Chromaphone’ and the inspired sound designs of Simon Stockhausen’s ‘Cardinals’.

Technical notes:

One audio track split to two separate fx bus:
Bus 1- NI Reflektor (w/various ‘Synesthesia’ IR) -> Drift -> 2C Audio ‘Breeze’ (Rooms)
Bus 1- Drift -> NI Reflektor (w/various ‘Synesthesia’ IR) ->2C Audio ‘Breeze’ (Ambiences)

Both busses processed through Matthew Lanes ‘DrMS’ Mid/Side plug-in. Original audio muted (sent out pre-fader to busses).

Before each ‘run’ I used Logic’s ‘transform’ to randomize each of the two ‘Drift’s’ parameters separately for ‘rate’ and ‘smooth’, depth was always 100%.

Ambient Dubplate 1

First in a new proposed series in a ever-growing catalog of personal dubplates, this time of ambient textures approached from a mathematical context (conceptually).

“In mathematics, especially in geometry and topology, an ambient space is the space surrounding a mathematical object. For example, a line may be studied in isolation, or it may be studied as an object in two-dimensional space — in which case the ambient space is the plane, or as an object in three-dimensional space — in which case the ambient space is three-dimensional. To see why this makes a difference, consider the statement “Lines that never meet are necessarily parallel.” This is true if the ambient space is two-dimensional, but false if the ambient space is three-dimensional, because in the latter case the lines could be skew lines, rather than parallel.”
